Overcoming the World

This is the week Jesus overcame the onslaughts of trials meted out by the evil pursuits of this world. These trials culminated in death as was the plan of the authorities and the people. Yet death did not win as so many assumed it would.

When trials come into our lives let us be reminded to stop and think of how Jesus handled every trial in His life on earth. He waited, paused, quickly consulted with His Father in Heaven as He sat down and drew in the sand patiently waiting for the right timing and words of wisdom before He spoke. Jesus spoke truths that matched actions as He flipped the tables in the temple during Holy Week, then calmly walked away out of town. He matched satan’s temptations in the wilderness with words of wisdom that provoked thought and even though thirsty, hungry, and exhausted, He stayed the course with His commitment to His belief and faith in God. He prayed in the garden to shed the cup He was handed, yet with His fate sealed, Jesus stood and faced it without fear.

The world, governments, justice systems, friends, family, nor hard work saves us. Holy scripture and knees bent in prayer as trials build up keep us focused on the ultimate goodness of God. We, too, can overcome.

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have trials. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

As trials of this world become harder to navigate never give up. Be courageous and brave. Jesus within will help you overcome; Holy Spirit to your Spirit.
