Loving the Unlovable

“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world….the spirit that is now at work in the sons and daughters of disobedience – among whom we all once lived…But, God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us….made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved through faith…” Ephesians 2:1-8 (ESV) Excerpts

Isn’t that the truth! If you read this quote from the perspective of our relationship with our Heavenly Father, we can see how true this is from a human standpoint. For instance, God sent Moses to rescue the people so they would have a better life and live in freedom, but they quickly became discontented, complained incessantly, and were very impatient when hardship came. God was merciful to a rebellious people. Out of love He was patient, He was kind, and He provided even when they were behaving in their worst way. Historically, humans have repeated this scenario generation after generation. God continues to love His unlovable children today, and He calls us to do the same towards each other. It is not easy to love the prisoner, the drug addict, the prodigals, the rebellious family member or friend, the destructive rioters, selfish neighbors…but, He asks us to remember their actions are almost always a cry for help, love, and acceptance from being heard. We are called to see them through His eyes of mercy, and to remember we, each one of us, once walked down the rebellious, unlovable road.

Is there someone in your life that is acting in an unlovable way that needs you to show him/her Holy mercy, forgiveness, and love? Maybe it’s You who is tired of living the rebellious, unlovable life and desperately want and need the Love of Jesus Christ to enfold you into His arms of mercy and forgiveness? Ask, Accept, Receive, and Give the Most Love you have in Him, today!
