Savor Life’s Moments of Goodness

Savor: to experience, to taste or smell with delight and patience; to enjoy the moment

Rushing through life is not healthy and, besides that, we can miss some of the most beautiful memories that can serve to lighten our loads we carry in this world. Memories have a way of reminding us life is good. We just have to seek and find the goodness within the muddled mess that carves out our day to day living. Anyone who has been trail riding on horseback knows what I’m talking about. Those breath taking moments as you round the corner of a wooded logging path to see and hear a rushing waterfall or beautiful sunset peaking through the trees. It is welcoming, calming, and gives a sense that all is right and well in creation, so it can be for me too! If we pause every time we come face to face with one of these moments it seals our heart with hope. If we rush past telling ourselves we’ll get back to that later, we might never return to it. We don’t have to take an exotic vacation, be on horseback, or even take time off to find and take in beauty and goodness. It’s there tucked into each of our days to give us encouragement, beauty, and feelings of something bigger than ourselves.

Life is not about just surviving. Life is about Savoring. So, the next time you drive into the sunrise and the mountains appear majestically through the clouds giving way to an ethereal beauty like no other, pause and savor the grandness of the moment. As you drive to work or school and red birds appear at the stop sign, wait a few extra seconds before proceeding and reflect on their timing of showing up right at that moment, the provisions creation has designed for them, and their beautiful plumage. Take time to notice the beautiful patterns the bare branches of the trees make against the gray winter sky and thank Divine for the good memories that will get you through in His name.

Amid the gloom of weather, the bad news, the sick child, the job cuts, the death of a loved one, and the hate filled world we live in strive to make your life about finding the Goodness sprinkled throughout each day. It makes all the difference in whether you are creating beautiful memories to fall back on or just trudging through to survive. Make life sweet, not sour. Thank God for this provision to see us through each day. Seek Goodness; Make Good Memories; Savor Life right where you are!

” O taste and see that the Lord is good.; Blessed and Happy are those who hope, trust, and take shelter in the Lord” Psalm 34:8
