In a season when hugging is frowned upon in an effort to cease the spread of virus’, plagues, and disease, society has taken away one of the purest forms of love, a hug. We are all creatures of touch, even frogs. Air hugs, fist bumps, and elbow jabs just don’t feel the same as a hug, though. Hugging is a sign of mutual affection even when we don’t know each other that well. Especially when the rains come, not only in the form of water droplets, in our lives a simple hug can make us feel loved.
And, yes, it can occur even when PTSD, abuse, sexual battery, and even mind games have made us fearful of touch. If you find you can trust someone, a hug becomes welcomed, is cathartic, and will make you feel loved in the purest and most right sense. It may take time, but your season will come when Divine sends someone into your life that will teach you what real love can be. Then trust and hugs become natural. Don’t give up.
“Love one another with mutual affection; out do one another in showing honor.” Romans 12:10
