Feelings

When someone remembers your smile of encouragement, a sincere hug, or a compassionate nod, your kind actions make a lasting impression towards the good in the world. It leaves them with the feeling they are cared for, loved, and respected. It may be the closest feeling of Jesus they get all day. It may be hard to be kind to the unloveable, misunderstood, haughty, and judgemental people we encounter throughout each day, but we are called to be the hands, feet, and voice of Jesus.

Treat others just as you want to be treated. Luke 6:31

It is clearly important for each of us to know that we are heard in the vast sea of chaos in this world, especially within our own families. To know it is to feel it. All of the right words can be said, but we know when it’s heartfelt and when it’s just empty, even angry words. It feels bad.

It is also important to guard against allowing our own negative feelings to project towards another person. We are not called to feed the disgruntled anger by retaliation, teaching lessons, or conditional interaction. Gods Love must be at the forefront of every action in order for the other person(s) to feel loved even when there are disagreements. Love is unconditional, and so are feelings. It can be hard. We are not here to judge, shame, or perfect anyone. Jesus made the prostitute feel respected even as He said to go and sin no more. It was still her choice as to whether she followed through and changed. She was taken aback by the simplicity of His words, demeanor, and kindness. I believe she felt heard.

How are you feeling today?
