Joseph was a man after God’s heart, will, plan. His faith was solid, and God’s Word was deeply planted in his soul. Even so, he had second thoughts about Mary. He most likely had trouble believing her encounter with an angel and pondered whether to marry, then divorce her or just abandon her altogether. I imagine he struggled deeply with the right thing to do.
The depth of Joseph’s trust and faith in God led him to an encounter with an angel himself in a dream. “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21…
Joseph believed in God’s revelations in his dreams. He took them seriously and transformed these dreams into reality. He married Mary. It wasn’t in name only. He provided, protected, and supported her.
Joseph would have other dreams from God that He followed through on, as well, that kept his family safe.
We should never discount our own dream revelations from God. He uses many ways to speak to us daily. Dreams are only one of them.
