Judas chose the death line instead of Jesus’ offering of a life line even though Judas betrayed him never considering Jesus sacrificed His life to save all not just a chosen few. Judas was so overcome with shame and self-loathing he could not see beyond his mistake to even consider the life line offered. Judas was remorseful for turning Jesus over to the priests giving them what they had wanted for years; a trap to justify the arrest and killing Jesus (although God had the last laugh because Jesus defeated even death).
If Judas had remembered all he had learned during the time spent with Jesus as a disciple perhaps he would have stored in his memories Jesus’ unconditional love, grace, mercy, and His predicted arrest/death/resurrection leading to forgiveness for all, even the Judas’ of this world. Instead Judas focused on his mistakes, being a spy, deceiving, and the money. In the end, he could not live with himself and could not even accept the money offered him in the temple for his betrayal. But, oh, what a missed opportunity in Jesus’ eyes. If he had taken those mistakes and turned them into a testimony, many would’ve been saved from their own destruction.
Judas was remorseful and realized he made mistakes. He was ripe for a life changing experience, but he gave up. He wasn’t patient enough to wait for the healing Jesus’ sacrifice of his life on the cross gives. That Life Line of Hope is still offered to all of us today. Someone will cross your path today, or tomorrow, or even next year who needs you to provide a life line. The Holy Spirit will guide you with words and wisdom. We are the hands and feet of Jesus on earth. Be the Life Line of Hope in Jesus in your life and for others.
“I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations… Right and just are the foundation of your throne; Love and Faithfulness go before you. Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you; who walk in the light of your Presence, O Lord.” Psalm 89:4-6
