Calling the 12 to Him, Jesus sent them out 2 by 2 and gave them authority over evil spirits. Mark 6:7
It is not God’s intent for us to walk this life alone. Not only were the disciples sent out in groups of 2 as witnesses, but also to strengthen and comfort each other, especially in the face of rejection. They were a team on a mission.
Jesus even gave them specific instructions: take a staff, but no money or food, no bag with essentials, only wear sandals, but no extra tunic. They were to leave without much preparation. Jesus even told them to shake the dust off their feet (a Jewish custom), as they leave if rejected or unwelcome. It was to be a mission of solely depending on the grace and sufficiency of God.
How many times do we feel unprepared to share our Jesus story with strangers or even friends? Yet, when God says it’s time, we must trust Him. Whether it’s go or stay or speak, we must truly and completely be obedient to His will, care, and timing. It is the most unexpected symbol of true love to solely depend on God without your own resources.
We might not feel prepared, but God always is. Holy sends people in our path that need our story, or we need theirs. Watch for that opportunity today.
