How are the rod and staff comforting? Jesus watches over us like a shepherd guarding His most prized possessions. The crook in the staff serves to rescue any sheep in trouble, and Jesus will go after us time and time again when we stray too far from Him. Jesus is all that is kind.
The rod serves as a defense to ward off predators and protection as well as a source of support. It is likened to the power and authority of God’s Word.
Both are a source of comfort as we can rely on the Word as Truth and the staff as a source of God’s protections through the God-man, Jesus.
The people want a Savior. A babe was born thousands of years ago to be King. He came to teach, to show, to heal, to comfort, to save, and still does this today by the Holy Spirit.
