A good deed is never lost; (those) who sow courtesy reap friendship
(Those) who plant kindness gather love.” ~ St. Basil The Great

“Concentrate on doing your best for God, work you won’t be ashamed of, laying out the Truth plain and simple.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (MSG)

St. Basil the Great, orator, writer, theologian, and tireless laborer of pastoral care on behalf of Christ. He became cloaked with the mantle of the defender of faith. During his life he founded the first monastery in Asia minor, he preached twice a day to huge crowds, built a hospital that was called a wonder of the world, as a youth he organized famine relief, worked in a soup kitchen himself, and fought the business of prostitution. Yet, he faced opposition from many including religious authorities for thinking outside the box of the norm of his time and adhering to the voice of Truth within. Even today many Christians face the same issues as he did. His commitment to trying to preserve the Spirit of Christ in such perplexing and painful problems as reform, organized religion, fighting for the poor, and maintaining balance and peace in misunderstanding was the story of his life. St. Basil the Great became known as “minister of grace who has expounded the truth to the whole earth” 70 years after his death. Perhaps he was a man before his time? Or, perhaps, by his reliance on the Spirit within to encourage him to stay committed to the path of Truth he could see the bigger picture of life through God’s eyes.
