Shake it Off!

I saw something the other morning I have never seen in person. Two turkey hens and their babies found a dirt spot to take a dust bath in at the far end of the pasture. The hens rolled and squirmed in the dirt while the babies ran around them flapping their little wings like they were so excited. I watched in awe with child like wonder. When the hens stood up they shook like crazy and fanned their feathers in the wind. They shook out the mites, the sweat, the red dirt flying then just simply walked away into the woods as the little babies ran after them.

I felt a little stunned as I marveled at this self care ritual. I recall how mesmerizing and magnified the whole scene was in my sight and asked the Lord what it meant.

I got my answer a day later when I heard in my spirit “shake it off”. The Lord used that beautiful yet simple action of the turkey hens taking a dust bath to give a lesson

I asked for details. Holy Spirit continued. Shake it off! Whatever it is! Whatever is happening or not happening, unhappiness or unhealthy circumstances, discontent, discouragement, loneliness, rudeness, daggers of hurt, uncertainties…. Let it go in the wind. Lean into me, shake it off, and keep going. You are tough enough to do it.

Joel 2:28 tells of a coming time when God’s Holy Spirit will be accessible to everyone. Acts 2 is the direct connection to this during Pentecost, which also fulfilled Jesus’ promise that He would leave His Holy Spirit within all. Are you accessing the Holy Spirit poured out upon you as a believer?

Today is the day to start. It will lead you to a deeper connection with the inner workings of Holy. Shake off whatever the hindering distractions of each day are and embrace God in everything and everyone.
