The sea of white markers stretch far and wide denoting loved ones who willingly sacrificed their lives to preserve the freedoms of this country, their families, and for strangers like you and I. The wars are many; WWI, WWII, Civil War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, Afghanistan, 9/11 to name a few. Sacrifice bears the burden so life, liberty, and justice prevail. It also leaves a trail of broken hearts and weeping children.
Today, as we celebrate with our families, enjoy a BBQ, light up the sky with flares, or perhaps just sit on the back deck to ponder the meaning of this Memorial Day, let us remember to raise a thankful prayer of gratitude for the sacrifice the service men, women and their families made for our freedom. And, to Jesus for the sacrifice He made on the cross for the freedom of all humanity.
“Let my prayer be counted as incense before you,
and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice!” Psalm 141:2
