Resting Places

Who wants to live peacefully in a safe, secure resting place? I do, I do!

This tranquil scene drew me in as the kind of place that could be a haven I could live in forever. Well, until I die and go to heaven.

Yet, while this would be heaven on earth in my mind, the point of the scripture is to live peacefully in a safe resting place wherever we are in life. A place on earth is just a building. A home is anywhere we make it, no matter how small or big. It is the mindset of feeling safe, comfortable, peaceful, and a place to gather and rest.

Having said that, we must remember the context of this scripture as rest relates to God. Biblically speaking, rest is the ability to quiet our minds so we can be totally focused on God. To hear Holy, we must be clear minded and open hearted to just sit and listen, ponder, pray, read scripture, and just be still in patience.

Rest is not sitting on our phones for hours watching reels escaping from reality. It is not even about sleeping.

Rest is the ability to actively seek Holy wisdom in the midst of the craziness of life on earth. As believers, we must be able to go inward and develop the mindset of dwelling peacefully in a safe and tranquil place by shutting off what is going on around us. Our resting place is with God at home, at work, at school, when surrounded by angry people, traffic rage, war, or illness.

No matter what is going on in your life today, take some time and just rest in God. Your peace will come. Holy is your resting place.
