The humanness of Jesus knew pain, anguish, sorrow, trouble, and loneliness. His depth of fear as to whether He could really do what the Father was asking of Him was tremendous. He knew His close friends would soon scatter to the wind. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus asked simply for His friends to stay and keep watch with Him in His sorrow and overwhelmed state as He went to pray to the Father. His friends fell asleep. Three times He returned to His friends after praying to find they had fallen asleep even after warning them about temptations and weakness of the physical body.
In the Garden of Gethsemane, He did what He always did every day, Prayed. Prayer was His daily lifeline to the Father. Without it, as His friends confirmed, He was truly alone in an evil, selfish twisted world of corruption on a death hunt for Him.
Yet, His close relationship with the Father through His prayer life allowed Him to pull Himself together. Jesus woke up His friends saying, “Rise, let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
Is your soul overwhelmed? Prayer is your lifeline. How is your daily prayer life?
