Change is usually very difficult for all of us in some way or the other. It always feels like a giving up of some sort. While forced change is unpleasant and doesn’t stick for long, transformative change that occurs within results in life long happiness. Why do we always try to convince ourselves that change will happen when we’ve perfected life? None of us are perfect nor will we ever be.
Jesus washed the feet of his friends in servant hood during His last supper before being arrested. They were not perfect, yet He did it anyway. Several would betray Him in some way or the other and He knew it. Yet, He did it anyway. He could’ve sat at the head of the table the whole time enjoying the food and friends while others served and did the work. Yet, He made the effort to humble himself to serve all of them in hopes they would remember the purpose of life so their faith would withstand betrayals, hardships, Change. He transformed their thinking that night, though they would not realize it until another time.
These friends interacted with the Savior in the flesh and still had a hard time not betraying Him. Now, we have His Holy Spirit within and He works to transform those imperfections of ours into positives. It takes effort on our part to hear the Holy Spirit, follow the nudgings deep in our heart, and let go of the idea of perfect. Our effort must include a personal, daily interaction with Holy in order for transformative change to occur. Until then it’s hard to serve others in love if we don’t find them worthy, good enough, or difficult. Holy can transform that within you and one day you realize you’ve changed and don’t even remember when.
