Peace in the Stable

The most peaceful way to silence the frenetic pace of the season is to remember the stable. There you find animals who know how to enjoy each moment. Soft whinnies, dog smiles, and cat purrs are soothing sounds that fill our souls with happiness and contentment. Imagine the addition of the coos of a newborn babe. Peace on Earth comes to mind even if only for a moment.

Heaven came to earth surrounded by this scenario. The beauty of God shone round the stable as a lesson in greatness that is found in humble beginnings. We must remember that pain, struggles, heartaches, and hard times will give way to God’s beauty and purpose.

From the long, exhausting travel to the disappointment of no room anywhere to clean up, rest, and give birth, Mary and Joseph made do in the stable. The animals circled round lending a calming peace in the moment. Amid the bloody labor, sweat laden brows, and tear stained cheeks God came forth through Mary in spite of conditions.

The heart of the matter is whatever difficulties you are facing God always has a plan. Slow down. Take time. Listen closely for God speaks to us in mysterious ways.

And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Luke 2:7

Peace is not found at the mall, extravagant houses, family gatherings, or in church pews. Peace is found within amid the roar of earthly turmoil. Peace must be captured and honed with the mindset of a warrior.

Peace was born in the stable so you and I would know true stability lies in a manger. Jesus is your peace.
