The Hebrew word for waiting is qavah, which means to hope for, to be expectant and to bind together as a cord with patience. Waiting for God to move, change circumstances, heal, or act on something requires patience.
Patiently waiting binds together or intertwines to make the wait sustainable. God uses that time to work on our hearts. We are to look for God while we wait and be teachable in order to learn what Holy needs us to know or do. It is not a time to be complacent, lazy, or distracted. We are expected to keep moving forward productively in the waiting, especially in our relationship with Holy or it will take longer to heal, restore, learn from mistakes, change, or find contentment.
So Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please.” And they came near. And he said, “I am your brother, Joseph, who you sold in Egypt. And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life”. Genesis 45:4-5
In the event of Joseph and his brothers it took many years of hardship and suffering, before success after the betrayal of his brothers for Joseph to get to a place of reconciliation and forgiveness instead of revenge and retaliation. There were things, ways, and circumstances God needed Joseph to learn and know before he could get him to a heart of forgiveness. Our learning and knowing God deeper is in the wait, in our mistakes, failures, and missteps.
What are you waiting for God to do in your life? Pray over it right now then release to God and patiently wait for Holy to move, speak, instruct, or open a door. God’s timing, not our own, is perfectly successful. Be patient in the waiting. Keep your eyes and mind on Jesus.
(God says) “I will gather you and bring you home”. Zephaniah 3:20
