To have someone so close to your small inner circle betray you hurts deeply. Jesus knows it firsthand.
Judas broke trust out of greed and lust for money. Jesus knew. He broke bread, shared wine, with him, along with His other close friends anyway. When Jesus spoke of it during the last supper, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me.” Each one replied, “Surely not I, Lord.” Even Judas. To him, Jesus replied, “Yes, it is you.” Yet, he did not banish him from the table or his sight. Jesus carried on with eating and teaching the disciples, for He already knew there would be other betrayals. After eating, they sang a hymn and traveled on to the Mount of Olives. All of them.
Jesus knew the trust was broken, yet He allowed Judas to stay within the group. Was he giving him time to confess?
That is what Jesus still does for us. He gives us time. He waits. He is patient. He is kind. Most importantly, Jesus asks us to do for others as He does for each of us. In time, the truth comes, and healing can begin. Do you feel betrayed? Discuss it with Jesus before doing or saying anything.
