Long Road Home

Humans, by nature, are creatures of community.  Sometimes, in life, the journey is not meant for team efforts, friend gatherings, or group road trips. Sometimes, we have to navigate the potholes in the dark, seek the light at the end of the tunnel, and cross over deadly waters to arrive safely on the other side. The perception of making that journey totally alone is daunting, so there are many who do not persevere, follow through, and/or give up mid-way because “alone” is a scary concept.

Yet, we are never truly alone for the Holy Spirit lives within as the driver, the navigator, the wise one. Yes, many times it is a long road  home, to healing, to living anew, but if you trust the process set forth by God for your life, you are never alone, even in death.

Difficult journeys in life are often medicated by veering off into addiction, selfishness, petty attitudes, and something akin to road rage making the road home harder than it needed to be. One of the hardest times in this life’s journey comes when you can not take the burden from someone you love deeply. These are the times in life when you have to trust in the process of life and death set forth by God. Times when it’s just you and God.

Do you trust?

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5, 6
