The world was expecting a royal king akin to the ruling kings of their day. The people wanted to be a part of His royal court which could enable them to possibly gain important political status. They envisioned the babe would be enshrined in a prominent palace until He became old enough to rule. Oh how wrong the people and the world were to think this of Jesus. His life was nothing resembling a king in the traditional sense. Even today people have a hard time explaining and believing that the babe born actually came to save all to the kingdom of heaven and not to be placed as a ruling king of political prominence over any given city, region, or country. He came for the whole world.
The truth of Jesus’ birth is that God came to earth in human form as a baby to live among the people He came to save. He came to save all and not just a few elites, only the rich and important, nor those in powerful positions within an earthly kingdom. King Jesus reigns over the all of the Kings.
That is why kings, priests, and teachers of the law felt threatened by a baby named Jesus. He would not agree with their corruption, perversions in the temples, and dishonest gains. His reign would look very different and He would tolerate nothing less than honesty, doing the right thing, kindness, compassion, and relationship with all.
Jesus still reigns today and He is King of my world. Is He King of yours?
