Ice Spikes

One cold morning as I stepped out my back door with my dogs, I was greeted with the beauty of ice everywhere. My dogs ran and played as I gazed into the forest lit up like sparkling diamonds as the sun peeked through the gray clouds. Ice, so beautiful, yet so treacherous.

My eyes wandered over the stark contrast of drear and beauty. Shivering, I turned to escape the biting cold thinking of the crackling fire waiting inside. That is when I saw it. Rising up out of my frozen birdbath was the most exquisite and perfectly shaped ice spike in the shape of a triangular vase. What a rare gift.

While ice spikes can be scientifically explained, it struck me how beautifully chiseled it was gleaming amid the harsh elements. I was filled with the wonder and awe of the mysteries of God. I was reminded that it is important to remember that life, like ice, presents us with brutal conditions, yet breathtaking beauty. We must see both to see God.

Take time to notice the wonders surrounding you in this moment. Your world will soften, and you will feel compelled to explore the mysteries of God revealed in creation.

Daniel declared: “God gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. He reveals deep and secret things” Daniel 2:21, 22
