Are you distracted or guarded? Since the beginning, distractions have been used by Satan to lure us away from God. In the garden it was the forbidden fruit. For Samson it was the beauty of a beguiling woman of trickery. He didn’t see past her beauty and charm until it was too late. For us it is the pull of social media, money, possessions, porn, addiction, success in all the wrong ways…..
Our heartstrings are pulled on hard when God says no, but we want something different. There’s always a cost. Where do you spend more time, living on the edge between this world and God’s world? Guard your heart. Feelings, wants, and selfishness gets us no where but empty promises and a fallen spirit. Guard your mind.
Judges 16 Samson and Delilah
In the end, while blind and in prison, Samson repented and God forgave him. When the opportunity arose, God was able to defeat His enemies through Samson. Yes, it cost Samson his life, too, but in recognizing the errors of his ways, he willingly gave it up for the cause of doing the right thing for God, not himself.
It’s never too late to kick those distractions to the curb and turn back to God. He’s calling the prodigals home. He’s calling for me and you.
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23
