Die to Self

God’s voice will come through us in truth, grace, and kind accountability to a fallen world of selfish indulgences. First me must die to self, have a heart posture change in order to become wholly invested in God’s path for our lives. Such was the case with Jonah.

Jonah was a man of God. Yet he ran from God when he was to go to Nineveh to speak to the people about their sinful lifestyles. God knew Jonah was the one the people would listen to. Jonah did not want to leave his comfy lifestyle right where he was for those people.

So in his disobedience he discovered a harsh world of hard knocks and ended up drowning in a sea of sin. Yet, it was in the belly of the whale he finally died to self and a prayer (Jonah 2) rose up to God.

When my life was ebbing away, I remembered the Lord….Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. But, I, with a song of Thanksgiving will sacrifice (my life) to you (God). What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the Lord. Jonah 2:7-9

Today, we must be realize that Jesus sacrificed His all for each of us uniquely gifted people. We receive grace upon grace as we find our way back to God, daily, because we slip up, regress in faith, lead a life of lies, make mistakes, wrong decisions, and bad choices, too. Yet, God is a God of abundant second chances. It is when we die to self imposed sin and change our heart posture that we truly realize God is right and good, all the time. Holy is the light in our rock bottom, pit of dark despair, trail of bad decisions….

Send this to someone who needs to hear this today. God saved Jonah from the belly of the whale: “And the Lord commanded the great fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land” Jonah 2:10. God will save you, too through Jesus Christ.
