Today, as I reflect on the terror tragedy in America on 9-11-2001, my thoughts wander with wondering if all of those who lost their lives that day were saved to heaven in Jesus’ name. Were they believers in the mercy, forgiveness, unconditional love, and saving grace of Jesus? That is the lesson we must embrace amid the remembering.
Each person who died that day started it off in their normal routine. Mom’s and Dad’s went to work. Stranger’s boarded planes together to attend meetings, go on vacation, or visit relatives. Friends made plans to gather for lunch. It was a great day to be alive until lives were suddenly gone without warning. No one who died that day had time to make a plan, get right with God, or even say goodbye to loved ones. It was unexpected and sudden.
It seems to me that the real 911 emergency in our lives is believing Jesus was willing to die a horrible death to save humanity. All the while, Jesus trusted that God would defeat death. Jesus’ resurrection is proof that God keeps promises, can be trusted, and overcomes all of the tragedies this world throws at us. This is the story to be shared far and wide to whomever needs to hear it in your circle of this world. We are not guaranteed another second of life.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open, and my ears are attentive to the prayers offered in this place.” 2 Chronicles 7:14-15
Tomorrow might just be too late to accept Jesus. Do it now. It is time to rise and heal and overcome with Jesus.
